Auto sector expansion cited as key growth driver
During the interview, Trump indicated that the expansion of production in all major automobile companies was the reason for economic strength, ANI citing tom a forein media said.
Trump stated, “If you went around this plant, like I have, they just announced they’re going to 24 hours. This is a Ford plant, but GM’s the same, Stellantis is the same.”
Unprecedented pace of factory expansion nationwide
The president pointed out that there were all over-the-clock working factories in the US, and he described the rate of developing as nothing but the fastest ever.
He said, “They’re enlarging every plant in this country. We’re building more plants in the country than we’ve ever built.”
Regarding the inflation issue Trump confessed that conditions were highly improved with respect to inflation since his presidency began but he also mentioned that some people might still feel it in terms of high grocery prices.
“I’ve got to clean up a mess,” he admitted. “I got a mess of crime. I got a mess of inflation.”
Strong job and stock market numbers signal economic health
In the case of Trump, it was assured that he was taking the right steps by bringing the inflation figures down to the lowest figures possible and pointing out that job and stock market numbers were not only indicative of the great health of the economy but also of the other contributing factors in the economy.
The president also justified his choice to abolish federal mandates that required consumers to change very fast to electric cars, by stating that Americans must have the preference.
“I want electric, I want gasoline, and I want hybrids; I want everything,” Trump said. “Now, people are free to select electric; they can choose gasoline or hybrids.”
When the question was about the stopping of an electric vehicle plant near the Ford facility, Trump answered that the production was being shifted back to gasoline vehicles, which he termed as market-driven.
Labour shortages seen as sign of a dynamic economy
Trump admitted that there was a shortage of skilled labor in manufacturing and also pointed out the quote of Ford’s CEO regarding thousands of unfilled mechanic jobs, but he characterized the condition as a glass half full.
“It’s a dynamic situation,” he asserted. “At the same time, one can see a picture of a lot of unemployed people.”
Robotics and automation to shape future manufacturing jobs
He claimed that companies were training their personnel really fast and that he even foresaw a time when automation would be there to assist the human laborers.
“I beleive that the introduction of robots in manufacturing and the like is going to be an important future trend,” says Trump, “without them, this country is going to run out of people.”
Moreover, he mentioned that the layoffs in the federal sector are serving to redirect the workers towards the private sector jobs paying higher salaries.
“Those people are being educated in order to have the capability to work in the private sector at a much higher salary,” he remarked.
When he was questioned regarding the sustainability of jobs in manufacturing over the years, Trump indicated that skilled workers would not only have jobs but also their wages would go up as the economy grows.
